The Halls of Deep Corruption

 So I realized I didn’t cover Throlin’s talents

1. Infiltrator: When moving into enemy held territory I get +1.  I see Thorlin being this strong wrestler, but is fleet of foot and has some ability to sneak around.

2. Banner Sworn: I gave him this due to his Skulde background and his strong feelings towards it.

3. Brawler: Thorlin has typically engaged in hand-to-hand combat and I felt this gave him that aspect.

After brining our people back to Stoneford, I meet with the Overseer (Oline) and we discuss what has happened.  Both myself and some of the hostages heard the Broken speak of the Dreamwalker but we have no context to what this creature may be.  However, if the Broken are killing our people towards this end we must learn more about this. Second, the runes I saw on the arch in the hills were similar to a number of runes I saw back in the Broken settlement.  It’s decided I should go find this arch and see what I can learn.

I take time to heal in Stoneford as I took some injuries freeing our people.  Once I feel ready I head out and find the arch fairly easily.  The more I study the runes the clearer it is that some of them are the same as what I found in the settlement.  As I pass through the arch I enter a room with a number of coffins and an alter at the end of the room.  I don’t discover much here, but the setting is very similar to what was in the Broken settlement.

The following room has a handful of Broken wondering around the room, but they are not typical Broken. Their skin is ashen and they don’t appear to be aware of their surroundings.  There is only one exit to this room and as I move toward the door I run into a Broken who is startled to see me.  He states “A Skulde!  We must get you out of this room.”  I had rolled a “find someone who is looking to help you”. I rolled a description for this Broken and I get Bannerman/Gain Followers. My interpretation of this is he is Skulde himself and he is looking to gather more Skulde, but why I don’t know at this point.

He tells me there is much to be learned in this place and tells me to hurry and he will find me later.  He pushes me into another room and walks away talking to himself “yes, yes this might work.  He is Skulde, this could work”.

I envision the Broken to be similar to Gollum from Lord of the Rings.  Shorter disfigured creatures who were once human/human like.  As I move into the next room there are a number of Runes on the walls and some of them are lightly glowing.  In the sender of the room is a table raised up on a 10 ft tall platform.  At the top of this platform is a book filled with the Runes I’ve been seeing over the past several days. The book is written in common and the text refers to the “True” and taking the power from the lesser beings. There is too much here for me to process now, so I take the book.

The book was on a pressure plate and as I lift the book the doors to the room begin to close.  I’m able to make it to one door before it fully closes, but a man emerges from a trap door in the floor. He realized I’ve taken the book and shouts down the trap door ordering someone(s) to stop me.

By the end I end up in a massive hourglass shaped room with two massive archways at each end.  While I’m at on end of the chamber the archway here is sparking with magical energy and from time to time I can see to another location.  I have no interest in being lost in some unknown land so I time it so I can pass through the archway without being teleported.  Nope, I completely miss my roll and end up next to an underground lake with no idea where this might be.

I turn around and try to get through to the other side.  I gave myself an 10% chance to be successful here (roll 91 or more).  I roll 94.  By the graces of fate, I make it back into the cavern!

As I do there is the sight and sound of magical energy from the far side of the cavern and I can hear voices.  I sneak up and see this large creature talking to the same man I saw back at the trap door.  The man is telling this creature that someone has taken the book.  If I’m allowed to leave with the book we might learn of “the master” and the plan will be in danger.

I’m able to escape the depths and return to Stoneford but our time is limited as whatever this creature is will be looking for me and this book...
